Meet Our Sled DogsDog sledding in Northwestern Ontario Canada Our sled dogs are known as Alaskan Huskies. They have been used for many years by the Eskimos and Indians to pull sleds and also for playmates for the children. Alaskan Huskies are very loving and loyal dogs. They are bred for speed, endurance, desire to pull. They are not show dogs and are unregistered, despite having known lineage. In the early 1900s, gold miners bred huskies with setters, retrievers, wolves and many others. The best dogs were fast and light weight, averaging about 50 lbs. Around 1960 some experimentation with different hounds occurred. These dogs created hybrid vigor with speed and enthusiasm that was hard to beat. However, they didn't deal quite as well with the elements. So now the teams are made up of the pure, old breed huskies and the husky/hound crosses. A good definition for a sled dog is a dog that runs fast, pulls hard, and loves to do it! Now we'd like to introduce a few adult members of our teams. And we can't forget the puppies!
